पितृमरणश्रवणं जलक्रिया च
Hearing of Daśaratha’s death and the libation rites at Mandākinī
अब्रुवंश्चापि रामेण भरत संगतो ध्रुवम्।तेषामेव महान् शब्द: शोचतां पितरं मृतम्।।।।
abruvaṃś cāpi rāmēṇa bharataḥ saṅgato dhruvam |
tēṣām eva mahān śabdaḥ śocatāṃ pitaraṃ mṛtam ||
ਉਹ ਕਹਿਣ ਲੱਗੇ—“ਨਿਸ਼ਚੇ ਹੀ ਭਰਤ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ; ਮਰੇ ਹੋਏ ਪਿਤਾ ਦਾ ਸ਼ੋਕ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਵੱਡੀ ਵਿਲਾਪ-ਧੁਨੀ ਹੈ।”
They said, 'Bharata must have joined Rama. That loud noise must be their wailing over their deceased father'.
Dharma is recognition of truth (satya) in signs and context: the speakers interpret the sound as rightful mourning for a father, not mere commotion.
Those outside infer—from the loud lament—that Bharata has reached Rama and that the brothers are grieving together.
Empathy and discernment: they connect the noise to a moral cause—mourning and duty—rather than suspicion alone.
