Glory of Puruṣottama: Pañcatīrthī Observance and Narasiṃha Worship
yāṃ yāṃ kāmayate siddhiṃ tāṃ tāṃ prāpnotyapi dhruvam | aṣṭottaraśataṃ tvekaṃ pūjayitvā mṛgādhipam || 116 ||
Suta (narrating the Narada Purana dialogue/tradition)
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: bhakti
Secondary Rasa: adbhuta
It teaches the phala (assured result) of focused devotion: performing a complete 108-fold worship of the Lord brings the devotee the specific siddhi he seeks, emphasizing faith, order, and sincerity in upāsanā.
Bhakti is presented as purposeful and grace-centered: by honoring the Lord as the supreme protector (mṛgādhipa—lion-like Narasiṃha/Vishnu) with a full count of offerings, the devotee aligns desire with worship and receives the Lord’s boon.
It highlights ritual discipline and counting in worship—using the auspicious number 108 (aṣṭottaraśata) for japa/arcana—reflecting practical kalpa-style procedure (ritual method) rather than grammar or astrology.
