The Characteristics of Devotion to Hari
bhūyo bhūyo hitaṃ vacmi bhujamuddhṛtya nārada | viṣṇuḥ sarvātmanā pūjyastyājyāsūyā tathānṛtam || 54 ||
Sanatkumāra (teaching Nārada in the dialogue)
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: bhakti
Secondary Rasa: vira
It condenses a core sādhanā: single-minded, total devotion to Viṣṇu, supported by moral purification—specifically giving up envy and falsehood, which obstruct bhakti and inner clarity.
Bhakti here is not partial or occasional; it is sarvātmanā—offered with one’s whole self. The verse also shows that devotion must be protected by character: envy and dishonesty undermine reverence, humility, and steadiness in worship.
No specific Vedāṅga technique is taught in this verse; the practical takeaway is ethical discipline (satya and non-asūyā) as an essential support for mantra, pūjā, and other Vaidika practices.
