जातिं देशं च सत्यं च माहात्म्यं भरतर्षभ | धर्म वृत्ति च विज्ञाय क्षत्रियाणां नराधिप

Transliteration

jātiṃ deśaṃ ca satyaṃ ca māhātmyaṃ bharatarṣabha | dharmavṛttiṃ ca vijñāya kṣatriyāṇāṃ narādhipa rājan bharataśreṣṭha ||

Translation

ਵੈਸ਼ੰਪਾਯਨ ਬੋਲੇ— ਹੇ ਭਰਤ-ਸ਼੍ਰੇਸ਼ਠ ਰਾਜਨ! ਮਹਾਭਾਰਤ ਦੀ ਕਥਾ ਆਰੰਭ ਹੋ ਜਾਣ ਉਪਰੰਤ, ਹਰ ਪਰਵ ਵਿੱਚ ਖ਼ਸ਼ਤਰੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਜਾਤ, ਦੇਸ਼, ਸੱਚਾਈ, ਮਹਾਤਮਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਧਰਮ ਤੇ ਆਚਾਰ-ਵ੍ਰਿੱਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਣ ਕੇ, ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜੋ ਜੋ ਭੇਟ ਚੜ੍ਹਾਉਣੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ, ਹੁਣ ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਵਰਣਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
