शल्मलि–पवनसंवादः
The Dialogue of Śalmali and Pavana
प्रविशन्नेव स वनं निगृहीत: सकण्टकै: । स कण्टकैर्विभिन्नाड्को लोहिताद्रीकृतच्छवि:
praviśann eva sa vanaṁ nigṛhītaḥ sakaṇṭakaiḥ | sa kaṇṭakair vibhinnāṅgo lohitādrīkṛtacchaviḥ ||
ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਜੰਗਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਦਾਖ਼ਲ ਹੋਇਆ, ਤੁਰੰਤ ਹੀ ਕਾਂਟਿਆਂ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਝਾੜੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਜਕੜ ਕੇ ਰੋਕ ਲਿਆ। ਕਾਂਟਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਗ-ਅੰਗ ਨੂੰ ਛੇਦ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਲਹੂ-ਲਾਲ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ। ਇਹ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਗ ਦੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਚੁਣੇ ਹੋਏ ਲਕਸ਼ ਵੱਲ ਅਟੱਲ ਨਿਸ਼ਚੇ ਨਾਲ ਦੌੜਦਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕਮਜ਼ੋਰ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਵੀ ਅੱਗੇ ਵਧ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ; ਪਰ ਕੁਦਰਤ ਤੇ ਹਾਲਾਤ ਅਜਿਹੀ ਬੇਪਰਵਾਹ ਜਲਦਬਾਜ਼ੀ ਦੇ ਦਰਦਨਾਕ ਨਤੀਜੇ ਤੁਰੰਤ ਹੀ ਦੇ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
