This verse primarily transmits itihāsa-purāṇic knowledge: the preservation of royal genealogy (vaṃśānucarita) by listing notable rulers associated with Ayodhyā.
By cataloging dynasties and place-linked rulers (here, Ayodhyā and Sūryavaṃśa figures), it functions as a historical-geographical index alongside the Agni Purāṇa’s other domains (ritual, polity, medicine, and arts).
Remembering and reciting righteous lineages is treated in Purāṇic tradition as smṛti-sādhana—supporting dharma-memory, inspiring ideal kingship, and generating merit through reverent recollection of sacred history.
