FAQs

It transmits Ayurvedic viṣa/daṃśa-cikitsā: a practical herbal formulation/poultice using karañja and cooling/anti-inflammatory drugs (mañjiṣṭhā, candana, śirīṣa, kaumuda) to relieve scorpion-sting distress.

Alongside theology and ritual, the Agni Purana preserves applied medical knowledge—here, toxicology and emergency care for stings—showing its wide scope as a compendium of practical sciences.

While primarily medical, preserving and applying such life-protecting knowledge is treated in Dharma-informed texts as a meritorious act (hita/ānukampā), supporting the duty to relieve suffering.
