Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pasha
Shiva Form: Dakṣiṇāmūrti
Role: teaching
It teaches Shaiva Siddhanta discernment (viveka): liberation comes by transcending Māyā’s impure limitations (like embodied human identity) and even the subtler cosmic attainments, resting finally in Shiva (Pati) who is beyond all paths and categories.
Linga-worship begins with Saguna focus to purify the mind and loosen Māyic bonds; this verse points to the culmination where devotion and knowledge mature into recognition of Shiva as transcendent—beyond even the ‘pure’ cosmological levels—while the Linga remains the gateway-symbol of that Supreme.
Practice steady japa of the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) with inner detachment from identity and attainments; support it with Shaiva disciplines like Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) and Rudrākṣa as reminders to renounce Māyā and abide in Shiva.
