Gajāsura’s Austerities and the Disturbance of the Worlds
sanatkumāra uvāca | evaṃ vṛtaśśatadhṛtirdānavena sa tena vai | prādāttattapasā prīto varaṃ tasya sudurlabham
Sanatkumara
Tattva Level: pashu
The verse highlights that intense tapas can win divine favor, yet the granting of results remains an act of grace; in Shaiva understanding, effort (sādhana) ripens only when sanctioned by a higher divine will.
Though the verse speaks generally of boons, it aligns with Shiva Purana’s theme that disciplined worship of Saguna Shiva (often through the Liṅga) and tapas can draw divine prasāda—yet boons must be sought with dharma to avoid bondage.
The implied practice is tapas with steadiness—supported by japa (especially the Panchākṣarī, “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) and pure observances—so that devotion becomes worthy of divine grace rather than mere power-seeking.
