The Manifestation/Transmission of the Mṛtyuñjaya Vidyā
भार्गव उवाच । त्वं भाभिराभिरभिभूय तमस्समस्तमस्तं नयस्यभिमतानि निशाचराणाम् । देदीप्यसे दिवमणे गगने हिताय लोकत्रयस्य जगदीश्वर तन्नमस्ते
bhārgava uvāca | tvaṃ bhābhirābhirabhibhūya tamassamastamastaṃ nayasyabhimatāni niśācarāṇām | dedīpyase divamaṇe gagane hitāya lokatrayasya jagadīśvara tannamaste
ଭାର୍ଗବ କହିଲେ—ହେ ପ୍ରଭୋ! ନିଜ ଦୀପ୍ତିମୟ କିରଣରେ ତୁମେ ସମସ୍ତ ଅନ୍ଧକାରକୁ ପରାଜିତ କରି ଅସ୍ତକୁ ନେଇଯାଅ, ଏବଂ ନିଶାଚର ଦାନବମାନଙ୍କ ଅଭିମତ ଯୋଜନାକୁ ମଧ୍ୟ ଧ୍ୱଂସ କର। ହେ ଦିବ୍ୟ-ମଣି! ଲୋକତ୍ରୟର ହିତ ପାଇଁ ତୁମେ ଗଗନେ ଦୀପ୍ତିମାନ। ହେ ଜଗଦୀଶ୍ୱର, ତୁମକୁ ନମସ୍କାର।

Sthala Purana: Somadeva (Candra) is relieved of affliction through Śiva’s grace; the Moon becomes associated with Śiva’s auspiciousness and cooling radiance, celebrated at Somnāth as a prime liṅga-sthāna.
Significance: Removes inner ‘tamas’ (ignorance) and grants śānti and prasāda; symbolic healing and restoration through Śiva’s lordship.

The verse presents Shiva as the Jagadīśvara whose grace dispels tamas (ignorance/darkness) and frustrates adharmic forces; it models Shaiva bhakti as humble surrender and praise for the welfare of all worlds.
Although phrased as cosmic praise (like a sun that removes darkness), the intent is Saguna devotion—addressing Shiva as a personal Lord who protects the worlds; such stotras are traditionally offered before or during Liṅga-pūjā to invoke his protecting, illuminating presence.
Recite the verse as a short stotra with mental offering (mānasa-pūjā), then chant the Pañcākṣarī “Om Namaḥ Śivāya” while contemplating Shiva as the inner light that dissolves tamas and strengthens dharma.
