Fear of the Gods after Tripura’s Burning and Brahmā’s Praise
yadā duḥkhaṃ tu devānāṃ saṃbhaveddevasattama | tadā tvaṃ prakaṭo bhūtvā duḥkhaṃ nāśaya sarvadā
The Devas (addressing Lord Shiva)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Rudra
Role: liberating
It emphasizes Shiva as Pati—the supreme Lord whose grace is responsive: when beings (even the Devas) fall into duḥkha, His compassionate manifestation removes suffering and restores dharma.
The verse highlights prakaṭa—Shiva becoming manifest. In Linga worship, devotees approach the ever-present symbol of Shiva’s accessible, saguna mercy, seeking removal of distress through devotion and surrender.
A practical takeaway is to take refuge in Shiva through japa of the Panchakshara (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) and simple Linga-pūjā with bhasma and bilva leaves, praying for the removal of duḥkha.
