Devas’ Hymn, Nandikeśvara’s Petition, and Śiva’s Rising from Samādhi
purāvṛttaṃ smarakṛtaṃ vismṛtaṃ yadvidhe hare | mahendra munayo devā yattatsarvaṃ vimṛśyatām
Lord Śiva (inferred within the Pārvatīkhaṇḍa narrative addressing the gods)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
It emphasizes smṛti (right recollection) and vimarśa (discernment): sacred events—even those involving desire (Smara)—must be remembered and examined so the devas and seekers align with Śiva-tattva through clarity rather than forgetfulness.
By calling for careful reflection on past divine episodes, the verse supports saguna-upāsanā: devotees contemplate Śiva’s līlā and governance of desire and cosmic order, which matures into steadier devotion that ultimately points toward the transcendent (nirguṇa) reality of Śiva.
A practical takeaway is svādhyāya and mantra-japa with contemplation: recite “Om Namaḥ Śivāya,” then reflect on how desire arises and is purified by Śiva’s grace—turning remembrance into inner discipline.
