Narratorial colophon (chapter-ending statement within the Śeṣa–Vātsyāyana dialogue frame)

Concept: Scriptural transmission is structured and intentional; naming the dialogue frame and topic preserves dharma through accurate remembrance and recitation.

Application: When studying sacred texts, honor context—track sources, frames, and titles; disciplined learning prevents distortion.

Primary Rasa: shanta

Secondary Rasa: adbhuta

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"A palm-leaf manuscript lies open as a scribe completes the final line of the chapter colophon. Above, subtle divine motifs—Śeṣa’s many hoods and a lotus emblem—hover like watermarks, suggesting the sanctity of textual completion.","primary_figures":["Scribe/reciter","symbolic Śeṣa (serpent of eternity)","symbolic Vātsyāyana (sage figure)"],"setting":"Quiet manuscript room or temple library (grantha-bhaṇḍāra) with oil lamps, ink pot, stylus, stacked palm leaves tied with red thread.","lighting_mood":"temple lamp-lit","color_palette":["lamp amber","palm-leaf tan","ink black","vermillion red","deep indigo"],"tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting style: sacred manuscript colophon scene with gold leaf accents on lotus and Śeṣa motif, ornate borders, oil lamps glowing, scribe in traditional attire, rich reds and greens, gem-like detailing on manuscript ties and lamp stands.","pahari_prompt":"Pahari miniature style: intimate library scene with delicate linework on palm leaves, soft lamp glow, cool shadows, refined facial features of the scribe, subtle symbolic Śeṣa watermark in the background sky-like wash.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural style: stylized grantha-bhaṇḍāra with bold outlines, flat warm lamp fields, Śeṣa motif above as a decorative emblem, red/yellow/green palette, symmetrical composition like a temple wall panel.","pichwai_prompt":"Pichwai cloth painting style: manuscript and lamps framed by lotus borders and intricate floral patterns, deep blue cloth ground with gold filigree, central emblem of Śeṣa and lotus, devotional symmetry emphasizing completion of sacred recitation."}

FAQs

This is a colophon: a formal chapter-ending line that identifies the text (Padma Purāṇa), section (Pātāla-khaṇḍa), dialogue frame (Śeṣa–Vātsyāyana), topic (Rāma’s Aśvamedha), and the chapter title.

They are the named interlocutors of the framing dialogue for this portion of the Pātāla-khaṇḍa; the colophon signals that the chapter’s contents were presented within their conversation.

The title indicates that the chapter centers on Agastya’s counsel or instruction given to Raghunātha (Rāma), situated within the narrative context of Rāma’s Aśvamedha.
