Glory of Prayaga and the Magha Bath at Triveni
yatphalaṃ labhate māghe veṇyāṃ tattu dine dine | gavāṃ śatasahasrasya samyagdattasya yatphalam || 74 ||
Narada (teaching in a Tirtha-Mahatmya / Vrata-phalashruti style passage)
Vrata: Māgha-snāna (seasonal observance; implied)
Primary Rasa: bhakti
Secondary Rasa: adbhuta
It magnifies the sanctity of Māgha observances at the tīrtha called Veṇyā, stating that the merit gained there is not momentary but continues to accrue daily, equated with the enormous dāna-fruit of gifting 100,000 cows.
By praising tīrtha-sevā and Māgha-kāla practice as spiritually potent, it encourages sustained sacred living; such repeated merit (dine dine) supports a devotional life centered on holy places and disciplined observance.
Kalpa-oriented ritual principle: time (Māgha-māsa) and place (tīrtha: Veṇyā) greatly amplify results, and “samyag-dāna” emphasizes correct procedure and intention in charitable rites.
