Adhyaya 76 — The Sixth Manvantara: Cakshusha Manu, the Child-Snatcher, and the Problem of Kinship
cākṣuṣetyāha taṃ brahmā tapaso vinivartayan / pūrvanāmnā babhūvātha prakhyātaś cākṣuṣo manuḥ
Identity in Purāṇic cosmology is role-based: a being is ‘named’ into office, indicating that cosmic function and moral authority are conferred, not self-assumed.
Manvantara: it formally identifies the Manu whose period will now be described.
‘Cākṣuṣa’ (connected with sight/eye) can be read symbolically: the Manu is the ‘seer’ of order—one who oversees the visible arrangement of dharma in a cycle.
