Vidya Category: {"primary_vidya":"Cosmology","secondary_vidya":"Philosophy","practical_application":"Framework for understanding types of dissolution and using jñāna and vairāgya as the practical means toward ‘ātyantika-laya’ (final liberation).","sutra_style":false}

Encyclopedic Reference: {"reference_type":"Description","entry_title":"Ātyantika Pralaya Through Jñāna; Prelude to Hiraṇyagarbha Utpatti","lookup_keywords":["ātyantika-laya","jñāna","vairāgya","pralaya","hiraṇyagarbha"],"quick_summary":"The text transitions from periodic dissolutions to the ‘final dissolution’ identified with liberation through knowledge. Recognizing spiritual and other afflictions leads to dispassion, preparing the seeker for mokṣa-teaching and cosmological exposition."}

Concept: Ātyantika-laya is not merely cosmic destruction but the cessation of bondage through knowledge; vairāgya arises from discerning the pervasive ‘santāpa’ (afflictions) of embodied existence.

Application: Sādhana sequence implied: observe afflictions → cultivate dispassion → pursue jñāna (śravaṇa-manana-nididhyāsana) as the direct means to liberation.

Sandhi Resolution Notes: ity āgneye = iti + āgneye; triśatatamo 'dhyāyaḥ = triśatatamaḥ + adhyāyaḥ; agnir uvāca = agniḥ + uvāca; jñānādātyantiko = jñānāt + ātyantikaḥ; jñānātmanyātmahaḥ (in next verse) similar sandhi type.

FAQs

It imparts moksha-vidyā: the doctrine that ātyantika-laya (final dissolution/liberation) is attained through jñāna (liberating knowledge), supported by vairāgya arising from understanding the causes of inner and other afflictions.

It shows the Agni Purana’s encyclopedic scope by moving from cosmological categories of dissolution (nitya, naimittika, prākṛta) to soteriology—how liberation occurs through knowledge—linking cosmic cycles with practical spiritual discipline.

By recognizing ādhyātmika and related sufferings, one develops detachment from ego-based identity and attachments; this dispassion supports karmic release and culminates in the knowledge-based liberation described as ātyantika-laya.
