Vidya Category: {"primary_vidya":"Mantra","secondary_vidya":"Dhanurveda","practical_application":"Use specified mantra-variants and associated Garuḍa/Vāmadeva mantras plus chants (Rathantara, Vṛhad-ratha) with designated substances to secure victory, peace, and prosperity; includes potent/ambivalent dravyas (blood, poison) for specific prayogas.","sutra_style":false}
Encyclopedic Reference: {"reference_type":"Commentary","entry_title":"Mantra-pāṭha-bheda and jaya-prayoga: Gāruḍa–Vāmadeva with Rathantara/Vṛhad-ratha and dravya-list","lookup_keywords":["paripriyādeva kāri/kavi","pāṭhabheda","Gāruḍa mantra","Vāmadeva mantra","Rathantara Vṛhad-ratha"],"quick_summary":"The verse notes recension-variants of a mantra and states that performing the rite yields battle-victory; it associates Garuḍa and Vāmadeva mantras and the Rathantara/Vṛhad-ratha chants with śānti and puṣṭi, alongside a list of strong ritual substances."}
Concept: Efficacy depends on correct mantra transmission (pāṭha-bheda noted) and proper dravya-yoga; the same mantra-stream can be oriented to jaya, śānti, and puṣṭi by application.
Application: Verify recension/reading before practice; match mantra, chant, and substances to the intended rite and ethical constraints.

Sandhi Resolution Notes: vāmadevyañca → vāmadevyaṃ ca; jayamāpnuyāt → jayam āpnuyāt; śāntipuṣṭikarāṇyāhurdravyāṇyetāni → śānti-puṣṭi-karāṇi āhuḥ dravyāṇi etāni; tailaṅkaṇāni → taila-aṅkaṇāni. The sequences kha/cha/gha/ña/ja are manuscript/recension markers treated as indeclinables.
Related Themes: Agni Purana 260 (battle-protective mantra section)
It prescribes a mantra-based protective rite aimed at securing victory in battle, citing specific mantra/chant types (Gāruḍa, Vāmadeva, Rathantara, Vṛhad-ratha) and listing ritual substances such as oil/unguents and mustard, with more forceful materials (blood, poison) noted in the tradition.
It blends textual criticism (variant readings across recensions) with applied ritual science—linking Vedic sāman names and deity-mantras to practical outcomes (victory, peace, prosperity) and to material culture (dravyas used in rites), illustrating the Agni Purāṇa’s wide coverage from liturgy to martial-protective praxis.
The verse frames victory and well-being as results of correctly executed mantra-karman; it implies that disciplined, text-faithful performance aligns the practitioner with śānti (appeasement) and puṣṭi (flourishing), converting conflict into a ritually regulated domain rather than mere violence.
