FAQs

It imparts Śikṣā–Vyākaraṇa technicality: how certain letters are grouped, specifically defining a ‘Paruṣā’ class where ūṣmāṇa sounds (ś/ṣ/s/h) occur in consonant conjunctions with appropriate letters.

Beyond ritual and mythology, the Agni Purana catalogs śāstric systems like phonetics and grammar; this verse is a compact rule-like statement classifying sounds/letters, showing the text’s handbook-style coverage of linguistic science.

Accurate phonetic knowledge supports correct mantra pronunciation and recitation; in traditional thought, correct śabda (sound) preserves ritual efficacy and reduces errors (doṣa) in Vedic/Paurāṇic chanting.
