Vidya Category: {"primary_vidya":"Mantra","secondary_vidya":"Tantra","practical_application":"Ritual sprinkling (prokṣaṇa) and ground-sanctification using kuśa tips with Nārāyaṇa-ending mantras, followed by Vāsudeva-mantra scattering with an upturned palm gesture.","sutra_style":true}
Encyclopedic Reference: {"reference_type":"Procedure","entry_title":"Kuśāgra-prokṣaṇa with Nārāyaṇānta-mantras and Vāsudeva-kṣepa","lookup_keywords":["prokṣaṇa","kuśāgra","Nārāyaṇānta mantra","Vāsudeva mantra","uttāna-pāṇi"],"quick_summary":"Sprinkle the area using kuśa tips while reciting Nārāyaṇa-ending mantras; then scatter the consecrated water onto the ground with Vāsudeva-mantra using the upturned-palm casting gesture."}
Concept: Śauca is enacted through coordinated mantra + dravya + mudrā: speech (mantra), substance (water), and gesture (uttāna-pāṇi) together effect consecration.
Application: Before pūjā/pratiṣṭhā, standardize space-clearing: kuśa-prokṣaṇa first, then mantra-casting to ‘seal’ the ground.
Khanda Section: Puja-vidhi (Ritual Purification and Consecration Procedures)
Primary Rasa: shanta
Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"A priest sprinkles consecrated water with kuśa tips while chanting, then casts water onto the ground with an upturned palm, marking a purified ritual area.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural, priest holding kuśa bundle, droplets stylized as white arcs, sacred ground marked with lotus diagram, subdued palette with strong outlines, mantra aura around the hand.","tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting, priest with gold-highlighted kuśa and water vessel, sparkling gold droplets, decorative floor pattern, Vaishnava symbols (conch/disc) subtly in corners.","mysore_prompt":"Mysore style, step-by-step depiction: kuśāgra sprinkling then uttāna-pāṇi casting, clear mudrā emphasis, soft colors, minimal background for instructional focus.","mughal_miniature_prompt":"Mughal miniature, courtyard scene with patterned floor, priest sprinkling water, attendants holding vessels, fine depiction of grass tips and water spray, delicate architectural framing."}
Audio Atmosphere: {"recitation_mood":"instructional","suggested_raga":null,"pace":"medium","voice_tone":"instructional"}
Sandhi Resolution Notes: कुशाग्रैस्तेन = कुशाग्रैः + तेन; विकिरान्वासुदेवेन = विकिरान् + वासुदेवेन; क्षिपेदुत्तानपाणिना = क्षिपेत् + उत्तानपाणिना.
Related Themes: Agni Purāṇa pūjā-vidhi: prokṣaṇa, kuśa usage, mantra-śuddhi, bhūmi-śuddhi
It teaches a prokṣaṇa/bhū-śuddhi procedure: consecrating water by sprinkling with kuśa tips while reciting Nārāyaṇa-ending mantras, then scattering it over the ritual ground, and finally casting it with an open, upward-facing palm while invoking Vāsudeva.
Alongside theology, the Agni Purāṇa preserves step-by-step liturgical technique—specific implements (kuśa), bodily gesture (uttāna-pāṇi), and mantra-application (Nārāyaṇa/Vāsudeva)—showing its practical manual-like coverage of temple and domestic rites.
Purifying and sanctifying the ground through mantra-infused sprinkling is understood to remove ritual impurities and create an auspicious, Viṣṇu-protected space so that subsequent worship yields unobstructed merit (puṇya) and proper sacrificial efficacy.
