Tripura Dīkṣā: Prescriptive Procedure
Chapter on the Ordinance of Initiation
mamāpi ca bhavadbhiśca nāma grāhyaṃ śubhaṃ punaḥ | arihanniti tannāmadhyeyaṃ pāpapraṇāśanam
Lord Shiva (inferred, Rudrasaṃhitā Yuddhakhaṇḍa dialogue context)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Significance: Contemplation/recitation of Śiva’s auspicious name is presented as pāpa-praṇāśana (sin-destroying), aligning with tīrtha-like inner purification through nāma.
Mantra: arihann iti tan-nāma adhyeyaṃ pāpa-praṇāśanam
Type: stotra
Role: liberating
The verse teaches nāma-upāsanā—taking up and contemplating Shiva’s sacred name—as a direct purifier of pāpa and a supportive means toward inner purification and liberation in a Shaiva framework.
It supports Saguna Shiva worship by emphasizing a concrete upāsanā—recitation and contemplation of a specific divine name—which can be practiced alongside Liṅga-pūjā as a focused devotional discipline.
Name-japa and dhyāna: regularly recite and contemplate the Shiva-nāma ‘Arihan’ with devotion, ideally as part of daily pūjā, aligning mind and speech toward purification.
