It highlights that violating a vow taken in Mahādeva’s name—through bhrama (delusion)—binds the soul to duḥkha. In Shaiva Siddhānta terms, ignorance tightens pāśa (bondage), and suffering follows until one returns to dharma and Śiva-oriented clarity.
An oath in Mahādeva’s name presumes living under the Lord’s witnessing presence (Saguna Śiva as the compassionate, overseeing Pati). Linga-worship trains integrity, remembrance, and accountability—so vows and conduct become aligned with Śiva-bhakti rather than impulse.
A practical takeaway is vow-purification through Śiva-smaraṇa: daily Panchākṣarī japa ("Om Namaḥ Śivāya") with repentance and renewed sankalpa, optionally supported by Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) and Rudrākṣa as aids to steadiness and restraint.
