वय:ः प्राप्य परिक्षित् तु वेदब्रतमवाप्य च
vayaḥ prāpya parīkṣit tu vedabratam avāpya ca

वैशम्पायन उवाच
Maturity and authority are grounded in discipline: before assuming larger responsibilities, one should first attain proper age and undertake the ethical and ritual restraints associated with Vedic learning (vedavrata).
The narrator Vaiśampāyana marks a transition in Parīkṣit’s life: he reaches maturity and enters (or completes) the disciplined stage of Vedic observance, setting the stage for subsequent events involving his role and conduct.
