Bhagadattā’s Deployment Against Ghaṭotkaca; Elephant-Corps Escalation
tathaiva ca vadhārthāya putrāṇāṃ pāṇḍavo balī | nūnaṃ jāto mahābāhur yathā hanti sama kauravān ||
The verse frames the war’s violence as purposive and consequential: the mighty Pāṇḍava (implicitly Bhīma) appears as an instrument through which the accumulated wrongdoing of the Kaurava side ripens into destruction. It highlights the Mahābhārata theme that adharma invites inevitable ruin, even when enacted through human agency in battle.
Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that the powerful Pāṇḍava hero is effectively becoming the cause of the death of Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s sons and is striking down the Kauravas broadly, driving them toward annihilation on the battlefield.
