Vidya Category: {"primary_vidya":"Vyakarana","secondary_vidya":"Samanya","practical_application":"Correct interpretation and usage of the particle ‘ā’ in reading, composition, and grammatical analysis; supports accurate parsing in śāstra and mantra-like recitation contexts.","sutra_style":true}
Encyclopedic Reference: {"reference_type":"Definition","entry_title":"Particle ‘ā’: meanings and pragṛhya status","lookup_keywords":["ā nipāta","īṣat","abhivyāpti","sīmā","pragṛhya"],"quick_summary":"Defines the semantic functions of ‘ā’ (slightness, pervasion, boundary, root-combination) and notes its pragṛhya behavior in smṛti recitation and sentence usage, including senses of anger/affliction."}
Concept: Language as instrument: small particles govern meaning; disciplined speech supports disciplined thought.
Application: Improves correct recitation, interpretation of injunctions, and composition by mastering indeclinable semantics and sandhi exceptions (pragṛhya).
Khanda Section: Vyakarana (Sanskrit Grammar) — Avyaya/Nipata-artha-nirupana (indeclinables and particles)
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: adbhuta
Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"Agni as teacher addressing a seated assembly, with a manuscript titled ‘Avyaya-vargāḥ’; a chalkboard-like panel lists meanings of ‘ā’: īṣat, abhivyāpti, sīmā, dhātu-yoga, pragṛhya, kopapīḍā.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural, Agni-deva in teaching posture with stylized flames, students seated, palm-leaf manuscript, side panel with the particle ‘ā’ and its senses in Sanskrit, strong outlines and warm palette.","tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore, Agni with gold ornamentation and flame aureole, richly decorated teaching hall, manuscript and inscription panel showing ‘ā’ meanings, heavy gold work and jewel tones.","mysore_prompt":"Mysore painting, classroom-like instructional scene, Agni as ācārya, clear diagram listing semantic categories of ‘ā’ and note ‘pragṛhya’, refined lines and soft colors.","mughal_miniature_prompt":"Mughal miniature, scholarly durbar setting with Agni depicted iconographically yet naturalistic, scribes recording, a visible folio heading ‘Avyaya-vargāḥ’, marginal glosses for īṣat/abhivyāpti/sīmā."}
Audio Atmosphere: {"recitation_mood":"instructional","suggested_raga":"Saraswati","pace":"medium","voice_tone":"instructional"}
Sandhi Resolution Notes: इत्य् = इति + (अ); स्वर्गपातालादिवर्गा = स्वर्गपाताल + आदि + वर्गः (printed as वर्गा by sandhi/orthography); त्रिशततमो ऽध्यायः = त्रिशततमः + अध्यायः; अग्निर् उवाच = अग्निः + उवाच; अङीषदर्थे ऽभिव्याप्तौ = अङीषदर्थे + अभिव्याप्तौ; वाक्ये ऽपि = वाक्ये + अपि; कोपपीड्योः treated as dvandva dual in sense (anger & suffering).
Related Themes: Agni Purana 359 (svarga/pātāla-varga nānārtha context); Agni Purana 360 (avyaya-varga continuation beyond 360.1)
It imparts Vyākaraṇa-vidyā: the semantic functions of the indeclinable particle “ā,” including its use as a preverb with roots and its pragṛhya (sandhi-exempt) behavior.
By shifting from cosmological cataloging to a formal grammar lesson on indeclinables, it demonstrates the Agni Purāṇa’s scope beyond theology—preserving technical linguistic knowledge alongside purāṇic content.
While primarily grammatical, correct understanding and recitation (including sandhi/pragṛhya handling) supports accurate transmission of sacred texts, which is traditionally regarded as meritorious and purifying.
