Related Themes: Agni Purana: Saṃskāra-vidhi sections on garbhādhāna, puṃsavana, sīmantonnayana, jātakarma, nāmakaraṇa (within the same khanda)
It lists the sequential performance of key gṛhya-saṃskāras: conception consecration (garbhādhāna), prenatal rite (puṃsavana), pregnancy protection rite (sīmantonnayana), birth-rite (jātakarma), and naming (nāmakaraṇa).
By cataloging household life-cycle rituals (saṃskāras) alongside other sciences, the Agni Purāṇa functions as a compact manual of dharma and practical rites, not only mythic narration.
These saṃskāras are purificatory rites intended to sanctify conception, protect the fetus and mother, and ritually integrate the newborn into dharmic social and spiritual order.
