Description of Svarga: Amarāvatī, the Sudharmā Assembly Hall, and the Directional Cities

tatra sarvāmara-puraṁ cakravāta-samuddhatam | durdharṣaṁ bala-dṛptānāṁ deva-dānava-rakṣasām | tatra jāmbūnada-mayaḥ suprākāraḥ sutoraṇaḥ || 76.2 ||

FAQs

It preserves a Purāṇic literary motif of the fortified celestial city, reflecting early Sanskrit imaginations of idealized urban space and sovereignty expressed through walls, gates, and precious metals.

No specific terrestrial site-name is explicitly given in this verse; it describes an ‘amara-pura’ (city of immortals), typically treated in Purāṇic literature as a celestial or mythic locale rather than a directly mappable historical city.

The verse is primarily descriptive rather than prescriptive; its philosophical emphasis is on the limits of brute force—portraying even strength-proud beings as unable to overcome a divinely ordered space.
