Varāha

Varaha Avatara Context: {"is_varaha_focus":true,"earth_interaction":"Varāha addresses the listener as ‘anagha’ and transitions into explaining vrata-phala and an ancient exemplum within the Varāha–Pṛthivī teaching frame."}

Bhu Devi Dialogue: {"is_dialogue":true,"speaker_role":"instructor","bhu_devi_state":"curious","key_question":"What is the (even if brief) fruit of this vrata, and what is the ancient precedent/story of its observance?"}

Mathura Mandala: {"is_mathura_related":false,"krishna_connection":"Indirect: the forthcoming narrative is within Vaiṣṇava vrata culture; no explicit Mathurā marker in this verse."}

Dharma Shastra: {"has_dharma_rule":true,"topic":"dana","instruction_summary":"The teacher will state the vrata’s fruit succinctly and support it with an itihāsa-style precedent, establishing authority for practice.","karmic_consequence":"Hearing and following the narrated precedent reinforces śraddhā and leads to the promised fruit; ignoring instruction implies missing the vrata’s benefit."}

Vrata Mahatmya: {"has_vrata":true,"vrata_name":"Unnamed in this verse (the ‘asya vrata’ referenced in 55.55 context)","tithi_month":"Not specified here; framed by dvādaśī in the immediate sequence.","promised_fruit":"Some portion of the vow’s fruit will be articulated; the setup signals auspicious, exemplary rewards."}

Cosmic Boar Symbolism: {"has_symbolism":true,"symbolic_interpretation":"Varāha as dharma-teacher: the cosmic rescuer also becomes the revealer of ritual order; narration (purā-vṛtta) functions as ‘smṛti’ transmission sustaining the world he once lifted.","yajna_varaha_imagery":"Implicit: teaching as a yajña of speech (vāc-yajña), where the ‘fruit’ is offered through instruction; no explicit anatomical mappings.","vedantic_connection":"Śabda-pramāṇa: sacred narrative and injunction are valid means of knowledge for dharma; practice is grounded in revealed/traditional testimony."}

Philosophical Teaching: {"has_teaching":true,"teaching_type":"hermeneutics of dharma (instruction + exemplum)","core_concept":"Dharma is learned through concise rule plus illustrative narrative; exemplars make invisible karmic law intelligible.","practical_application":"Seek both injunction (vidhi) and lived precedent (ācāra/itihāsa) before adopting a vrata; listen (śravaṇa) as part of observance."}

FAQs

It illustrates a common Purāṇic pedagogical method: summarizing the promised result (phala) of a practice and then introducing an older exemplar narrative (purā vṛtta) to authenticate and contextualize the observance.

No geographic location is named in this verse; it functions as a transition into a prior narrative about the vow.

The verse emphasizes disciplined listening and transmission of tradition: the teacher frames the vow’s outcomes responsibly (“in brief”) and invites attentive hearing of an instructive precedent.
