Varaha Purana 174.40 — Adhyaya 174, Shloka 40

The Sanctifying Power of River Confluences: Release from the Preta-State and the Rite of Śravaṇa Dvādaśī with Vāmana Worship

मनुष्यः प्रेततां याति स्पर्शेन सुतरां तथा ॥ पूर्वपुण्यं विनश्येत् तु प्रेतो भवति नित्यशः ॥

manuṣyaḥ pretatāṃ yāti sparśena sutarāṃ tathā || pūrva-puṇyaṃ vinaśyet tu preto bhavati nityaśaḥ

Melalui sentuhan/pergaulan sedemikian, seseorang lebih-lebih lagi menuju keadaan preta. Dan pahala kebajikan terdahulu akan musnah; dia menjadi preta secara berterusan.
