śrīvarāha uvāca || punar anyat pravakṣyāmi tac chṛṇuṣva vasundhare || mathurāyāṁ purā vṛttaṁ gokarṇasya mahātmanaḥ || vasukarṇaḥ pitā tasya vaiśyo dhanasamṛddhimān
Śrī Varāha bersabda: “Sekali lagi Aku akan menceritakan hal yang lain; dengarlah, wahai Vasundharā. Dahulu di Mathurā pernah berlaku suatu kisah tentang Mahātmā Gokarṇa. Ayahnya bernama Vasukarṇa, seorang Vaiśya yang kaya dan makmur.”
