Sūta
Tirtha: Hāṭakeśvara-kṣetra
Type: kshetra
Listener: Śaunaka and the Naimiṣāraṇya sages (frame)
Scene: A group of brāhmaṇas at dawn on the fifth day, freshly bathed, wearing bright white garments, standing in orderly formation with water-pots and kuśa, facing a ritual pavilion in the distance.
Sacred rites begin with śauca—purity of body, dress, and intention—so that worship becomes worthy and fruitful.
This verse is within the Tīrthamāhātmya of the Nāgarakhaṇḍa; the immediate line emphasizes tīrtha-linked ritual preparation rather than naming a single site in this shloka.
Snāna (ritual bathing) and wearing clean white garments as part of yajña readiness.
