Unspecified (same repentant former king speaking)
Listener: Mahāmuni
Scene: Symbolic montage: an unlit sacred fire, empty donation bowl, a frightened refugee turned away at palace gates—illustrating sins of omission.
Neglecting dāna (charity), yajña (oblations), and protection of the vulnerable violates dharma and brings karmic consequence.
The tīrtha is implied by the surrounding chapter; this verse highlights the contrast between prior adharma and later purification at the sacred waters.
Homa/huta into Agni (Jātavedas) is referenced as a neglected duty; dāna is also mentioned as absent.
