धर्ममर्थं च कामं च मोक्षं चोद्दिश्य चोच्यते । प्रयोजनमिति प्रोक्तं प्रथमं वाक्यलक्षणम्

dharmamarthaṃ ca kāmaṃ ca mokṣaṃ coddiśya cocyate | prayojanamiti proktaṃ prathamaṃ vākyalakṣaṇam

Apabila sesuatu diucapkan dengan dharma, artha, kāma atau mokṣa sebagai sasaran, itulah yang disebut “tujuan”—tanda pertama bagi suatu pernyataan.
