Skanda Purana — Kashi Khanda, Shloka 95

धर्मो जीवदया तुल्यो न क्वापि जगतीतले । तस्मात्सर्वप्रयत्नेन कार्या जीवदया नृभिः

dharmo jīvadayā tulyo na kvāpi jagatītale | tasmātsarvaprayatnena kāryā jīvadayā nṛbhiḥ

Di muka bumi tiada dharma yang setara dengan belas kasihan terhadap makhluk hidup. Oleh itu, manusia hendaklah berusaha sedaya upaya mengamalkan jīva-dayā, kasih kepada kehidupan.
