अन्यं च मे वरं देहि यदि तुष्टोसि शंकर । नामास्तु कृत्तिवासास्ते प्रारभ्याद्यतनं दिनम्
anyaṃ ca me varaṃ dehi yadi tuṣṭosi śaṃkara | nāmāstu kṛttivāsāste prārabhyādyatanaṃ dinam
Wahai Śaṅkara, jika Engkau berkenan, kurniakanlah satu lagi anugerah: mulai hari ini, biarlah nama-Mu menjadi ‘Kṛttivāsā’.
Daitya (the devotee)
Tirtha: Avimukta (Kāśī)
Type: kshetra
Listener: Ṛṣis (frame assumed)
Scene: The devotee petitions Śaṅkara for an additional boon: that Śiva be known as ‘Kṛttivāsā’ from that day; Śiva listens with compassionate steadiness, the hide/skin motif subtly present as the name’s anchor.
Devotion seeks not only personal gain but also the glorification of the Lord through sacred names.
The chapter belongs to Kāśī’s sacred geography, where Śiva’s names and liṅgas are celebrated as liberating.
Implicitly, remembrance and proclamation of Śiva’s name (nāma) is valorized, though no formal rite is specified.
