Tirtha: Kāśī-kṣetra (teaching on inner tīrtha)
Type: kshetra
Scene: A pilgrim stands amid bustling markets near the ghāṭas; sense-objects appear as alluring forms, while a calm inner light cuts their pull; the same objects fade as the pilgrim’s gaze turns inward to Śiva/Ātman.
Mental impurity is attachment; purity is vairāgya—freedom from compulsive craving.
Within Kāśī’s spiritual geography, the verse teaches that the pilgrim’s inner state determines the real fruit of Kāśī.
Cultivate virāga (detachment) from viṣayas as a practical discipline of purification.
