ऋषय ऊचुः । ब्रह्महत्या कथमभूद्रौहिणेयस्य सूतज । कथं चात्र विनष्टा सा तन्नो ब्रूहि महामुने
ṛṣaya ūcuḥ | brahmahatyā kathamabhūdrauhiṇeyasya sūtaja | kathaṃ cātra vinaṣṭā sā tanno brūhi mahāmune
Para ṛṣi berkata: “Wahai putera Sūta, bagaimana dosa pembunuhan brāhmaṇa timbul pada Rauhiṇeya (Balabhadra)? Dan bagaimana dosa itu lenyap di sini? Wahai mahāmuni, khabarkanlah kepada kami.”
Ṛṣis (Sages)
Tirtha: Lakṣmaṇa-tīrtha (contextual reference)
Type: kshetra
Listener: Sūta (Sūtaja)
Scene: Forest hermitage assembly: seated sages address Sūta with folded hands; behind them, a symbolic glimpse of the Setu shoreline or a tīrtha ghat, indicating the question arises in a pilgrimage discourse.
Scripture teaches through inquiry: sages seek the cause of sin and the means of purification, highlighting dharma as discernment and right remedy.
The question points to the same ‘here’—Lakṣmaṇa-tīrtha/Lakṣmaṇeśvara—as the place where the sin was dissolved.
No direct rite is stated in this verse; it introduces the narrative explaining how purification occurred at the tīrtha.
