Bondage and Liberation: The Prakṛti–Karma Wheel and Śiva as the Transcendent Cause
Sūta Gosvāmin (narrating to the sages at Naimiṣāraṇya)
Tattva Level: pasha
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Jyotirlinga: Viśvanātha
Sthala Purana: In Kāśī and other Śiva-kṣetras, circumambulation of the liṅga and the sacred enclosure is treated as a potent purifier; the verse universalizes this as a sin-destroying act on earth.
Significance: Pradakṣiṇā is framed as pāpa-kṣaya leading to eligibility for higher sādhana and ultimately Śiva’s grace.
Role: liberating
It declares pradakṣiṇā as a powerful act of bhakti that purifies pāpa and reorients the devotee around Pati (Śiva), placing the ego and its karmic tendencies in submission to the Divine center.
Pradakṣiṇā is typically performed around the Śiva-liṅga as Saguna Śiva’s worship-form, expressing reverence through body and mind while acknowledging Śiva as the axis of the cosmos and of one’s inner life.
Perform clockwise pradakṣiṇā around the liṅga (or shrine), ideally with mantra-smaraṇa such as the Pañcākṣarī “Om Namaḥ Śivāya,” cultivating humility, steadiness, and repentance while seeking purification.
