Śivakṣetra–Tīrtha–Māhātmya
The Salvific Function of Shiva’s Sacred Domains
गंगायां माघमासे तु तथाकुंभगते रवौ । श्राद्धं वा पिंडदानं वा तिलोदकमथापिवा
gaṃgāyāṃ māghamāse tu tathākuṃbhagate ravau | śrāddhaṃ vā piṃḍadānaṃ vā tilodakamathāpivā
Di Sungai Gaṅgā, khususnya pada bulan Māgha, dan juga ketika Matahari berada dalam Kumbha (Aquarius), sama ada seseorang melakukan śrāddha, mempersembahkan piṇḍa, atau bahkan memberi libasi air bijan (tilodaka), semuanya menjadi amalan yang sangat bermerit.

Sthala Purana: In the Viśveśvara/Kāśī frame, Gaṅgā-snāna and pitṛ-kriyā at Kāśī are praised as exceptionally efficacious because the kṣetra is held to be Śiva’s own abode where liberation is facilitated; offerings made with Gaṅgā-water are treated as directly reaching the pitṛs and purifying the doer for Śiva’s grace.
Significance: Gaṅgā-related śrāddha/piṇḍadāna/tilodaka in Māgha and at Kumbha-saṅkrānti is presented as a high-merit purifier that supports pitṛ-tarpaṇa and the aspirant’s eligibility for Śiva-anugraha.
