Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Paśupatinātha
It teaches directional contemplation of Shiva’s saguna manifestations, guiding the devotee to recognize the one Pati (Lord) pervading all space while governing creation, withdrawal, sovereignty, and liberation of the bound soul (paśu).
The Linga is worshipped as the one all-pervading reality; this verse complements that worship by assigning sacred names/forms of the same Shiva to the directions, supporting visualized, form-based (saguna) devotion without denying Shiva’s unity.
A simple dik-bandhana style meditation: face each direction in turn (starting East), remember these names of Shiva, and mentally offer arghya/flowers while repeating a Shiva mantra such as the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya).
