Purification of the Worship-Space and Preparation of Ritual Vessels
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Dakṣiṇāmūrti
Sthala Purana: General conclusion of worship: pradakṣiṇā, praṇāma, stava, ātma-samarpaṇa, and vijñāpana (humble petition). This is a universal closure pattern in Śiva pūjā rather than a site legend.
Significance: Frames devotion as surrender (śaraṇāgati) and aligns personal duties (kārya) with divine will; considered especially efficacious for receiving guidance and removal of obstacles.
Type: stotra
Role: teaching
Offering: dipa
It teaches that approach to Śiva must be grounded in vinaya (humility): devotion expressed through reverence (pradakṣiṇā, praṇāma), praise (stava), and the inner act of self-surrender—only then should one place worldly or dharmic requests before the Lord.
These are classic upacāras of Saguna worship: circumambulating and bowing before the Liṅga, reciting stotras, and offering oneself in devotion. The verse frames petitions not as demands, but as surrendered offerings to the Lord who is Pati (the gracious master).
Perform pradakṣiṇā and full praṇāma, recite a Śiva-stotra (or the Pañcākṣarī ‘Om Namaḥ Śivāya’), cultivate ātma-samarpaṇa in meditation, and then make your request with humility—especially appropriate in daily Śiva-pūjā and Mahāśivarātri observance.
