Puraścaraṇa and the Discipline of the Mantra-Sādhaka
पूर्वांतं पूर्ववत्कृत्वा हुत्वाहुतिशतं तथा । संतर्प्य मूलमन्त्रेण कलशैर्देशिकोत्तमः
pūrvāṃtaṃ pūrvavatkṛtvā hutvāhutiśataṃ tathā | saṃtarpya mūlamantreṇa kalaśairdeśikottamaḥ
Setelah menyempurnakan upacara terdahulu seperti sebelumnya, guru yang unggul itu mempersembahkan seratus āhuti ke dalam api suci; dan dengan Mūla-mantra, beliau menenteramkan serta memuaskan (dewa) melalui kalaśa—tempayan air yang telah disucikan.

It presents the Shaiva Siddhanta principle that inner devotion is stabilized through correct ritual order: homa (fire offering) and mantra-driven consecration purify the worshipper and make the offering fit for Lord Shiva’s grace.
The use of kalaśas and the mūlamantra indicates formal, Saguna worship—typically expressed as abhiṣeka and mantra-upacāra—where Shiva is approached as the manifest Lord who accepts offerings for the devotee’s purification and uplift.
A structured Shaiva pūjā sequence: complete the preliminary rite, perform a hundred āhutis in homa, and then do mantra-guided kalaśa offerings/abhisheka while maintaining focused japa of the principal Shiva mantra.
