Praise of Śaiva Dharma and the Fivefold Classification of Practice
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Sadāśiva
Significance: Supports the doctrine of Śiva’s vyāpti (pervasion) and adhiṣṭhāna (sovereign indwelling), a key contemplative lens for liṅga-darśana and daily worship.
Type: stotra
Role: teaching
It teaches Śiva as Pati (the Supreme Lord) who both pervades the entire tattva-to-bhūta cosmos and rules it from within, guiding the bound soul (paśu) beyond bonds (pāśa) toward liberation.
The Liṅga represents the Lord who is simultaneously beyond form and present in all forms; worship trains the devotee to recognize the same Śiva indwelling the body and the universe, known by names like Śiva and Rudra according to His functions.
Practice inward dhyāna with the Pañcākṣarī “Om Namaḥ Śivāya,” contemplating Śiva as the indwelling ruler in the body and as the all-pervading Lord across the tattvas and elements.
