It emphasizes śravaṇa (devout listening) to authoritative Purāṇic narratives as a purifying means, reminding the seeker that worldly power ends in death, while dharma-aligned wisdom supports the path toward Shiva’s grace and liberation.
By pointing to Skanda as an authority for sacred narration, it reinforces the Purāṇic method of approaching Saguna manifestations within Shaivism—honoring Shiva’s divine family and their deeds as aids to devotion that culminate in reverence for Shiva, the supreme Pati.
The implied practice is regular śravaṇa and manana (listening and contemplation) of Shaiva Purāṇas; this can be paired with japa of the Panchakshara mantra “Om Namaḥ Śivāya” as a steady daily discipline.
