Shiva Purana — Vayaviya Samhita, Shloka 2

Equality of the Trimūrti and Maheśvara as the Supreme Cause

FAQs

It frames the Trimūrti as cosmic functions arising from prior principles, while Shaiva Siddhānta reads Rudra (Śiva) as the key transformative power guiding dissolution and liberation, reminding the seeker that worldly processes are subordinate to the path toward moksha.

By presenting Rudra as a causal agency within cosmic operation, the verse supports Saguna worship: the Liṅga symbolizes Śiva as the grounding reality behind manifest powers, through whom the devotee approaches the transcendent (Nirguna) via an accessible form.

Contemplate the three cosmic functions as movements within Śiva’s order and stabilize the mind with japa of the Pañcākṣarī ("Om Namaḥ Śivāya"), optionally with Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) and Rudrākṣa to reinforce remembrance of Rudra as the inner transformer.
