Viṣṇu’s Hymn and the Petition for Śiva–Satī’s Protection
Suta Goswami (narrating Shiva’s nature within the Sati Khanda context to the sages)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Sadāśiva
Type: stotra
Offering: dipa
It declares Shiva as the spotless, attribute-transcending Supreme (Pati): unmanifest and immutable, yet the ultimate source of all manifestation—pointing the seeker toward liberation through knowing Shiva beyond limiting concepts.
The verse teaches that while Shiva is beyond all qualifiers (nirguna/avyakta), he is also of infinite forms (anantarupa). Thus, Linga and other saguna forms are valid supports for devotion and contemplation leading the mind to the attributeless Reality.
Meditate on Shiva as pure jyoti (inner light) while japa of the Panchakshara mantra “Om Namaḥ Śivāya,” letting go of limiting notions of time, size, and form; this aligns saguna practice with realization of the nirguna truth.
