Permission for Girijā’s Austerities
हिमालय उवाच । मह्यं च रोचतेऽत्यर्थं मेनायै रुच्यतां पुनः । यथेदं भवितव्यं च किमतः परमुत्तमम्
himālaya uvāca | mahyaṃ ca rocate'tyarthaṃ menāyai rucyatāṃ punaḥ | yathedaṃ bhavitavyaṃ ca kimataḥ paramuttamam
Himālaya bersabda: “Usulan ini amat berkenan di hatiku; biarlah Menā juga memperkenankannya sekali lagi. Biarlah ia terjadi tepat demikian, kerana apakah lagi yang lebih utama dan paling membawa berkat daripada ini?”

Himālaya recognizes the event as “paramottama”—the highest auspiciousness—implying that alignment with Shiva’s will is the greatest good and a doorway to Shiva’s grace (anugraha) for the household and lineage.
Though the verse is narrative, its mood reflects Saguna Shiva-bhakti: accepting Shiva’s manifest divine plan as supremely auspicious. Such consent and reverence are foundational attitudes behind Linga worship—honoring Shiva as the beneficent Lord who orders events for dharma and liberation.
The takeaway is sankalpa with devotion: make a clear, dharmic resolve and seek family harmony. Practically, one may accompany major life decisions with Shiva-japa (e.g., Om Namaḥ Śivāya) and simple Linga-pūjā for auspiciousness.
