Description of the Commencement of Battle

It portrays the restoration of dharma through divinely ordered struggle: even powerful forces (Daityas) are met by cosmic regulators (Indra, Agni, Yama), reflecting Shiva’s overarching sovereignty as Pati who ensures balance in the worlds.
Though the verse is martial, the theology is devotional: the devas’ capacity to confront adharma ultimately depends on Shiva’s grace and governance. In Saguna Shiva worship (including Linga worship), devotees seek that same protective order—Shiva as the accessible Lord who stabilizes life and inner discipline.
A practical takeaway is steadfast japa of the Panchākṣarī—“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”—for inner strength and protection, supported by Shaiva disciplines like applying Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) and wearing Rudrākṣa as reminders of Shiva’s guardianship over dharma.
