Description of the Birth/Manifestation of Śiva’s Son
Tattva Level: pasha
Sthala Purana: Not a Jyotirliṅga episode; this is within the Kumārakhaṇḍa narrative of the devas’ opposition and the consequences of offending Śiva-Śakti.
Shakti Form: Pārvatī
Role: destructive
The verse shows how opposition to Śiva’s śakti (Pārvatī) brings immediate karmic suffering; in Shaiva Siddhānta, harmony with Pati (Śiva) and His Śakti is essential for auspiciousness, while pride and hostility toward the divine order yield duḥkha.
It highlights that the Devas’ prosperity is not independent; it depends on alignment with Śiva (often worshiped as the Liṅga, Saguna for devotees). Disrespect toward Śiva’s Śakti disrupts grace (anugraha), which is central to fruitful worship and divine support.
A practical takeaway is to cultivate śaraṇāgati (humble surrender) through daily japa of the Pañcākṣarī—“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”—and to maintain purity of intention in worship, avoiding contempt or rivalry toward the divine and devotees.
