O venerable sage, this queen you are looking at, forlorn and emaciated due to grief and fasting, and who resembles a goddess is Kausalya, the principal queen of my father. As Aditi bore Dhata, she bore Rama, the best among men who walks with the powerful stride of a lion.
Truthful speech grounded in respect: Bharata identifies Kausalyā accurately and honors her status, even while acknowledging her suffering.
In response to Bharadvāja’s inquiry, Bharata points out Kausalyā and explains her identity and her relationship to Rāma.
Bharata’s satya (truthfulness) and maryādā (propriety): he speaks with reverence about elders and about Rāma’s excellence without exaggeration of self.
