Kausalya–Rama Dialogue on Exile-Dharma
तथा निगदितं मात्रा तद्वाक्यं पुरुषर्षभः।श्रुत्वा रामोऽब्रवीद्वाक्यं मातरं भृशदुःखिताम्।।2.24.10।।
tathā nigaditaṃ mātrā tad vākyaṃ puruṣarṣabhaḥ | śrutvā rāmo ’bravīd vākyaṃ mātaraṃ bhṛśa-duḥkhitām ||
Mendengar kata-kata yang diucapkan ibundanya itu, Rāma—yang terbaik antara lelaki—menjawab ibunya yang dilanda dukacita yang amat.
At these words of his mother who was deeply afflicted Rama, best among men replied:
Dharma includes responding to grief with composed, responsible speech—Rāma does not react impulsively but answers with moral purpose.
After Kauśalyā speaks to him in sorrow, the narrative turns to Rāma’s reply, setting up his dharmic reasoning.
Rāma’s steadiness and gentleness (dhairya and dayā) in consoling a suffering parent.
